FAIRR Initiative
FAIRR asked 23 of the world's largest listed food retailers and manufacturers to set time-bound commitments to grow the share of sustainable and nutritious plant-based and alternative proteins in their product portfolios, to enable consumers to make more sustainable and nutritious dietary choices, and to disclose progress towards those goals. It ran for six consecutive years and is now closed.
What happened
Result: Closed after six consecutive years and succeeded by FAIRR's Protein Diversification Engagement. Phase 6 was supported by 84 investors representing US$23 trillion in combined assets.
FAIRR reports that the engagement acted as a catalyst for leading companies to act on a topic that had not previously been a corporate sustainability priority, and that portfolio diversification is now recognised as a material business issue.
